Subscription and billing
Do I need a subscription?
Yes. Hearth needs an active subscription to do anything. Planning a week is the paid action, and the recipes and the shopping list all come from a plan, so without a subscription there is nothing to show. There is no free tier. The yearly plan opens with a free trial so that you can see a real week of dinners before you decide.
How do I cancel?
Cancelling is done in your Apple ID settings, not inside Hearth — Apple handles the billing, so only Apple can stop it. On your iPhone:
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top
- Tap Subscriptions
- Tap Hearth, then Cancel Subscription
Cancelling during the free trial costs nothing. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you will not be charged. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
I paid, but the app still asks me to subscribe
Open More and tap Restore purchases. This re-checks your Apple ID and is the fix in almost every case, especially on a new phone or after reinstalling. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you bought it with. If it still does not come back, email us.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled entirely by Apple, not by us — we never see your payment details and cannot issue one. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Planning your week
Why does my week start on Monday?
Hearth always plans Monday to Sunday, whatever day you start. That keeps the week in one shape, so a plan you made on Wednesday still lines up with the calendar in your head. If you start mid-week, the first plan will include the nights that have already gone — skip those and the following Monday starts clean.
Does the plan change on its own?
No. A plan stays exactly as it is until you ask for a new one. Nothing is replaced overnight, and nothing you have ticked off in the shopping list is reset behind your back.
I don't want one of the dinners
Open that dinner and tap Swap. You get a different one, and the shopping list is rebuilt around the change. If you never want to see a dish again, give it a thumbs-down — it is dropped from every future week. A thumbs-up keeps it in your favourites.
It says there aren't enough dishes for me
That means your restrictions and allergens together rule out almost everything we have. We would rather tell you than quietly serve you something you excluded. Open Preferences and relax one of the hard filters, or drop an allergen you do not actually need. If you think the message is wrong, tell us which options you had selected and we will look at it.
Why only dinners?
Because that is the meal people actually struggle to decide. Keeping to dinners is what lets a whole week be planned in a minute and bought in one trip. Breakfast and lunch are yours.
Shopping and cooking
Some things aren't on my shopping list
Salt, pepper and cooking oil are left off on purpose — we assume they are already in your kitchen rather than putting them on the list every single week. The app says so at the bottom of the list.
The quantities don't match what my shop sells
The list gives what the recipes need, not what the packet contains. We do not know your local shops, so round up to the nearest pack — the week is built to reuse ingredients across several nights, so the extra usually gets used.
Allergens
Please read this if you cook for someone with an allergy
Hearth excludes dishes by ingredient, and it never breaks a restriction or an allergen you have set. But it cannot tell you whether a food is safe. It does not know which brand you will buy, how that product was made, or whether the factory also handles other allergens, and it cannot detect cross-contact.
Always read the label on every product you buy. Treat the filters as a planning aid, never as a safety check. If you are in any doubt, speak to a qualified medical professional, and in the case of a suspected reaction seek emergency help immediately.
The nutrition figures are approximate, calculated from generic ingredient data rather than the products you actually buy. They are not suitable for managing a medical condition.
Your data
What do you know about me?
Very little, and none of it identifies you. Hearth never asks for your name, email address or phone number, and it does not use the camera, your photos or your location. What is stored is your preferences, your plans and your shopping list, under an anonymous identifier created on your device. The Privacy Policy lists it all.
Delete my data
Deleting the app puts the stored data out of reach. If you want it erased from our side as well, email us from any address and we will identify the record with you and remove it, normally within 30 days.
Still stuck?
Email us and we will reply. It is a small team, so please allow a couple of days. Telling us your device, your iOS version and what you were doing when it went wrong gets it fixed much faster.
